  • Google Calendar ICS

I am excited to bring my very first big band show to New York as we celebrate the life and music of John Coltrane for his centennial! We’ll be performing my arrangements of Coltrane’s music and my originals inspired by his life and music, interspersed with a spoken word artist performing the words and writings of Coltrane himself.

Tickets are a $10 suggested donation and can be bought here: https://wordupbooks.com/event/2026-11-15/coltrane-100th-celebration-ft-joseph-herbst-big-band

This project is made possible in part with funds from Creative Engagement and UMEZ Arts Engagement, regrant programs supported by The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) in partnership with the City Council, the Howard Gilman Foundation, and Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation (UMEZ), and administered by LMCC. The Music of A Charlie Brown Christmas

I had the honor of arranging “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” for this special concert! This concert features some of Asheville’s top musicians with arrangements by regional (current or past) arrangers. Plus, this concert is the launch of a new organization, USRA Asheville, which you can learn about here.

All the pieces on this concert begin as trio arrangements by Dr. Bill Bares, and then we, the arrangers, adapted them and added our own twists for the 10-piece ensemble. My arrangement also features spoken word artist Kevin Evans.

There are two shows, one at 3pm and one 7pm.
